A father has been taken into custody in Rhode Island, and his 18-month-old son is safe after being abducted from a childcare facility in Canton, Massachusetts.
Canton Police Chief Helena Rafferty confirmed that her department had been searching for Nathan DoRosario and his son, who shares the same name. NewsCenter 5 initially spotted multiple officers outside the Canton childcare facility. According to Rafferty, the child’s mother had a restraining order against DoRosario.
The father took the child from Empower, a daycare center on Wellness Way in Canton, though it’s unclear how he managed to do so. The facility is located near the headquarters of Point 32 Health, Dunkin, and Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company, close to the Interstates 95 and 93 interchange.
Around 4 p.m., Rafferty announced that the child had been found, and DoRosario was in custody in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He was believed to be driving a brown Chevrolet Equinox with Massachusetts plates.
Rafferty also mentioned that DoRosario remained in Rhode Island Thursday evening, and prosecutors plan to pursue his extradition on Friday.
