Marjorie Taylor Greene and Mike Collins Rally Against Animal Control Policies

This recent rally offered an unusual focus on animals as Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Mike Collins linked the actions of wildlife officials in cases involving pets and wild animals to broader critiques of the Democratic administration.

They painted a picture of a socialistic, big government agenda that they argued is exerting control in extreme ways—even impacting animals like raccoons and squirrels.

Greene pointed to a CBS report on Peanut the squirrel, which was seized by New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, suggesting Democrats in New York City orchestrated the animal’s capture and subsequent euthanasia.

However, the report clarifies that this incident took place in Pine City, New York, not New York City, and the animal was euthanized after officials identified it as a potential rabies risk. Greene’s reference to the situation seemed to exaggerate the event to serve as a metaphor for government overreach.

This narrative of animal control continued with Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Local father Dustin Maybee recounted how starving chickens began to eat each other after Sanders’ administration opted not to support farmers impacted by a company closure.

Instead, Sanders authorized the euthanization of over a million chickens—a move some described as inhumane and excessive.

These animal-related cases served as an unconventional backdrop to Greene and Collins’ message, using them to underline their concerns about government intervention and call for a return to what they see as a freer, less regulated society under Trump’s leadership.
