The Pinkerton Academy girls’ tennis team pushed its winning streak up to four matches and its season record to a strong 5-2 by demolishing the Nashua South Purple Panthers Tuesday, May 3. But the winning streak stopped there.
The Lady Astros took an 8-1 home loss on the chin from the unbeaten Bedford High Lady Bulldogs three days later, leaving veteran coach Gerry Rosado’s Pinkerton crew to step into this week with a 5-3 mark.
In the shutout of winless South in Derry early last week, the victorious locals swept singles, thanks to overwhelming successes from Sam Barros (8-2 score), Zoe Freedman (8-1), Michaela Forand (8-0), Samantha Donahue (8-0), Riley Reinert (8-0), and Victoria Walder (8-0).
Doubles wins were bagged by the duos of Barros and Maggie Gildea (8-6), Freedman and Reinert (8-0), and Forand and Donahue (8-0).
But the Lady Astros proved no match for the Bedford bunch in that lopsided battle in Derry on Friday the sixth.
With that humbling event freshest in mind, the Pinkerton crew readied itself for road matches at Spaulding in Rochester on Tuesday, May 10, after Nutfield News press time, followed by a trip to Alvirne in Hudson the next day.
