Lady Astro Booters Stay Perfect With Two More Wins

The Pinkerton Academy girls’ soccer squad took two more strong strides toward finishing the 2015 regular season with a perfect record by snagging one-goal wins from Concord and Exeter last week.

The Lady Astros – who are the only remaining undefeated squad in Division I – pushed their perfect mark to 14-0 by besting the Concord High Crimson Tide by a 3-2 tally in the capital city Tuesday, Oct. 13, and then edging Exeter High’s Lady Blue Hawks by a 2-1 count in Derry two days later.

In the clipping of Concord, Pinkerton raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first half but had to hold off the crashing Tide, which tallied twice in the second half to the Lady Astros’ one marker during that stanza.

Nicole Alves was good for two goals for the victorious locals, while Julia Bousquet scored once and Brittany Johnson assisted on all three PA markers.

Astro standout goalie Sammy Mitchell made six saves her contribution to the win, which made Concord 6-4-1 on the campaign.

Then last Thursday, Oct. 15, back home on their own pitch, the Lady Astros carried a 1-0 lead over Exeter to halftime and ended up winning by the 2-1 tally.

Courtney Velho and Nicole Gonya did the scoring for the hosts, and Melanie Roberge was credited with an assist. Keeper Mitchell made five stops in her cage.

Junior forward Gonya scored the eventual game-winner with a perfect shot from the far right side of the field, past two defenders, and into the upper-left corner of the net, just out of the reach of the Exeter keeper.

And the Pinkerton contingent’s road to an undefeated regular season was looking pretty smooth as it headed into this week, with the Lady Astros traveling to Keene on Tuesday, after Nutfield News press time, and back home to play Nashua North on Friday. Both of those opponents had sub-.500 records.
