Kamala Harris’s Path to the Presidency Runs Through North Carolina, Says Gov. Cooper

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper D stated on Sunday that if Vice President Kamala Harris wins North Carolina in the upcoming election this November, she will become the next president of the United States.

During an interview on CBS News’s Face the Nation, Cooper expressed confidence in Harris’s ability to win over North Carolina voters. He praised her for visiting the state often during her time in office.

Cooper highlighted the importance of North Carolina, noting that it was one of the closest losses for the Biden-Harris campaign in 2020, with a margin of just 1.3 percent. He pointed out that Harris has visited the state 17 times, showing her commitment to winning there.

“If she wins North Carolina, she’s the next President because Trump has no other path,” Cooper said, referring to the former president and current GOP nominee.

In 2020, Trump won North Carolina’s 15 electoral votes by fewer than 100,000 votes. The state has only voted for a Democrat once since 1980, when Barack Obama narrowly defeated John McCain in 2008.

Recently, the Cook Political Report adjusted its rating of the state from lean Republican to toss up, giving Harris a better chance. However, Trump still holds a slight lead over Harris in the polls, by just 0.3 percentage points.

Cooper, who was once considered for the Democratic VP position, said that once North Carolinians learn more about Harris’s campaign and her plans to lower costs and support the middle class, her polling numbers in the state will improve.

Cooper believes that Harris’s economic plan, which aims to lower costs for everyday people, help families, and protect women’s reproductive rights, will ultimately resonate with North Carolina voters.
