Juan Gonzalez, Inmate at Rankin County Prison, Dies from Suspected Overdose

A 41-year-old man at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County died on Thursday from a suspected overdose.

Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain confirmed the death in a statement.

The man, identified as Juan Gonzalez, was serving a four-year sentence for multiple convictions in Hinds County. He was scheduled for release in May 2025.

Due to the unknown substance involved, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Department of Health were alerted, according to MDOC.

The investigation into his death is still ongoing.
