A man from New Hampshire, Joseph Ferlazzo, is on trial in Vermont for the death of his wife, Emily Ferlazzo.
The couple had traveled to Vermont in October 2021 to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Emily, who was 22 years old, was reported missing by her family after Joseph returned from the trip alone. He claimed Emily had left after an argument.
Authorities say Joseph later admitted to shooting Emily twice during an argument and dismembering her body. Her remains were found in the bathroom of their camper van.
Joseph has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. His defense team argues that his confession wasn’t made voluntarily.
Emily’s mother told investigators there was a history of domestic violence in the marriage. In 2023, Joseph was ordered to pay $1.5 million to Emily’s family in a wrongful death lawsuit.
If convicted, Joseph faces life in prison. His trial is scheduled to begin on December 4.
