The Indiana River and Rail Terminals venture is focusing on streamlining operations at the Jeffersonville and Evansville ports in southern Indiana, aiming to enhance the efficiency of the supply chain in the region.
As more businesses turn to this area for growth, the ports play a crucial role in supporting economic development.
George Ott, director of the Jeffersonville Port, highlighted the importance of business partnerships in the port’s success, citing a 39% increase in cargo over the last two years. Southern Indiana’s ports are the largest inland ports in the country, making them vital for ventures like River Ridge.
Superior River Terminals of Indiana, a key partner, manages the transfer of goods between trains and barges, and general manager Shane Davenport emphasized that the new partnership would offer businesses easier access to both markets.
Expansion of rail yards on 140 acres in Jeffersonville and 600 acres in Mt. Vernon is also underway, which is expected to support continued economic growth and strengthen the region’s logistics capabilities.
