In Indiana, early voting for the 2024 election has seen record-breaking turnout, surpassing one million voters, according to Secretary of State Diego Morales. Long lines have been reported, with some voters waiting over an hour to cast their ballots.
Marion County Clerk Kate Sweeney Bell noted that early voting has already exceeded the turnout in 2020, with over 91,000 people casting their ballots early in Marion County.
To accommodate the demand, a proposal was introduced in a special election board meeting to expand voting hours at satellite locations, opening them at 9 a.m. instead of 11 a.m. However, the resolution was blocked by a vote from Republican board member Joe Elsener, citing logistical challenges and the need for additional staffing.
Despite this, voters are encouraged to take advantage of early voting opportunities.
The City-County Building will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. this weekend, while satellite locations will remain open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
