Nearly 140,000 residents of Illinois will soon receive checks from the state as part of the Treasurer’s Enhanced Money Match program, announced by State Treasurer Michael Frerichs.
This initiative is designed to automatically return unclaimed money without requiring residents to file claims.
The ICASH program helps individuals reclaim overlooked contents from safe deposit boxes, unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts, and unused rebate cards.
Frerichs noted that many people often mistake these checks for scams due to widespread concerns about identity theft, leading to uncashed checks.
His office has sent out letters to approximately 400,000 individuals informing them about the checks they will receive. Residents can search for unclaimed property or money on the Treasurer’s ICASH website.
