Illinois Man Arrested After Police Chase with Child in Car Ends in Chicago

A police chase that started in Indiana ended in Chicago on Tuesday evening, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old Illinois man. He was fleeing from officers with a 4-year-old child in his car.

The incident began around 5 p.m. when Highland police tried to stop a black BMW in Hammond during a joint law enforcement operation. Instead of stopping, the driver sped off.

The chase continued along Torrence Avenue and onto I-94 westbound, crossing into Illinois and eventually reaching Chicago.

Police used a PIT maneuver near 53rd Street and Morgan to stop the car. The driver ran from the vehicle, leaving the child behind, but officers caught him using a Taser.

Paramedics checked the child, who was unharmed, and the child was later released to family members.

The suspect, whose name has not been shared, faces serious charges, including felony fleeing, child endangerment, and marijuana possession.

After being checked by doctors, he was taken to a Chicago jail and is waiting to be sent back to Indiana for further legal action.
