Hot Lady Astro Booters Bust Broncos and Down Devils

The undefeated Pinkerton Academy girls’ soccer squad continued its sizzling hot start to the 2015 season last week with decisive road victories over the Alvirne High Lady Broncos and the Salem High Lady Blue Devils.

Coach Steve Gundrum’s academy group potted four unanswered goals in the first half of its 4-1 defeat of Alvirne in Hudson Tuesday, Sept. 15, and then Saturday, Sept. 19, the Lady Astros throttled the host Salem High contingent by a 6-1 score as the Pinkerton bunch advanced to a 7-0 record.

In the besting of Alvirne, the first-half goals from Britney Johnson, Nicole Alves, Keara Doolan, and Molly Gingras – with assists coming from Julia Bousquet (2), Abby Jepson, and Alves – set the Lady Astros up with a commanding 4-0 advantage.

Pinkerton goalie Sammy Mitchell contributed six saves in the decisive win.

Then in the walloping of Salem last weekend, the victorious Lady Astros remained unbeaten, thanks to two goals and one assist from Doolan and single scores from Bousquet, Johnson, Kyra Goucher, and Christa Ridenour.

Assists were credited to Jepson, Katie Ziniti, Emily Hallee, and Reanna Romano, and keeper Mitchell was good for five saves.

The academy squad netted three unanswered goals in the first period and then outscored its host by a 3-1 tally in stanza two.

The Astro girls’ unbeaten record will be tested on Saturday when they face the Londonderry Lancers, who are also undefeated. Their game is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on their home field.
