Heavy Rain and Flood Risks Loom Over Tennessee Valley and Southern Appalachians This Week

The Tennessee Valley and Southern Appalachians are facing significant weather disruptions this week, with heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding.

The National Weather Service Morristown TN office has warned that storm systems will bring 1 to 3 inches of rain by Tuesday night, potentially turning into snow and ice in southwest Virginia. Areas like the Clinch Mountains are expected to receive up to 3 inches of rain, raising flood concerns.

A second storm is set to arrive on Wednesday, with southeast Tennessee and southwest North Carolina seeing additional heavy rainfall. Total rainfall across the region could range from 3 to 8 inches, increasing the risk of flooding in already vulnerable areas.

Residents in the affected areas should monitor weather alerts closely, prepare for possible flooding, and be ready for hazardous conditions, including slick roads.
