HawkEye 360 Successfully Deploys 33rd Satellite Cluster for Enhanced National Security

HawkEye 360 confirmed that its Cluster 11 of three satellites was successfully launched and is now in orbit. This launch marks the fourth set of satellites developed at HawkEye 360’s Virginia facility under the SFL Flex Production Program.

The satellites launched on December 21, 2024, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, as part of the SpaceX Bandwagon-2 mission. The three satellites are now in communication with ground control. With this launch, HawkEye 360 has now launched a total of 33 satellites developed by Space Flight Laboratory (SFL).

HawkEye 360, based in Herndon, Virginia, chose SFL to develop its radio frequency (RF) detection satellites because accurate RF signal tracking requires precise control and coordination between multiple spacecraft. Since launching its first satellites (Cluster 1) in 2018, HawkEye 360 has become a global leader in space-based RF data and intelligence for national security.

SFL’s Flex Production program helps NewSpace companies by allowing them to develop the first satellite or satellite cluster with SFL’s support. Afterward, these companies can produce additional satellites at their own or third-party facilities. If new technology or designs are needed later, the work can return to SFL.

SFL developed HawkEye 360’s first several clusters and is currently working on Cluster 12, which includes technology updates. For later clusters (including 7, 8, 10, and 11), HawkEye 360 handled the satellite integration with technical support from SFL. The process for Cluster 13 is also underway.

SFL, established in 1998, has developed 82 successful smaller satellite missions with over 350 cumulative years in orbit. The company is currently working on 27 additional missions and offers a range of small satellite solutions for various missions. More information about SFL’s satellite platforms can be found on their website.

SFL is known for creating smaller, cost-effective satellites that deliver high performance. Their satellites are built to work from the start, with advanced systems for power, control, and data, while remaining within budget. SFL also offers global satellite launches and mission control services.
