Gov. Josh Stein s Inaugural Address: A Call for Bipartisan Cooperation in North Carolina

In his inaugural address, Democratic Gov. Josh Stein of North Carolina emphasized the importance of bipartisan cooperation in addressing the state’s challenges.

Despite winter weather forcing the ceremony indoors, Stein used the occasion to urge Republican lawmakers to work alongside him to strengthen the state.

His address highlighted key issues such as education, teacher raises, expanding career education, and tackling the fentanyl crisis.

Stein expressed his commitment to economic opportunity for all North Carolinians and called for investments in infrastructure, including broadband, roads, railroads, ports, and airports.

He also advocated for tax cuts aimed at benefiting working people and emphasized the need for a stronger workforce.

Although Stein’s focus on education aligned with Democratic priorities, he acknowledged the efforts of Republicans, particularly in seeking pay raises for teachers.

However, he highlighted his predecessor’s calls for more substantial raises and the challenge of overcoming partisan divides in education policy.

Stein’s address reflected a call for unity, drawing on historical examples of collaboration between Democratic governors and Republican legislatures.

He urged the General Assembly to put aside partisan differences and work together for the benefit of the people of North Carolina.
