Early voting in Georgia is set to begin this week, running from October 15 to November 1, offering residents a chance to cast their ballots ahead of election day.
Legal experts are urging voters to make a plan and be aware of their rights. Alicia Hughes, an assistant professor at Emory University School of Law, predicts a large turnout, with millions of Georgians expected to vote early or absentee during this two-week period.
Reflecting on the 2020 election, where many voters faced long wait times, Hughes expects early voting to be a popular choice this year.
She also points out that Georgia’s population has grown by over 315,000 since 2020, which means more voters will be participating in the 2023 elections.
She notes that voter concerns vary, with key issues including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, border security, and reproductive health.
Hughes advises voters to check their polling locations in advance and reminds those voting on election day that they have the right to vote as long as they are in line by 7 p.m. She emphasizes the importance of ensuring absentee ballots are properly submitted by November 5.
