Two presidential candidates, Cornel West and Claudia De la Cruz, have been disqualified from running in Georgia after state judges ruled that their electors didn’t submit the required paperwork. As a result, any votes cast for them won’t be counted, though their names may still appear on ballots since it’s too late to remove them.
Fulton County judges ordered notices to be placed at polling sites warning that votes for these candidates would be void if their names are listed. West, running as an independent, and De la Cruz, representing the Party of Socialism and Liberation, plan to appeal the decision.
If these rulings stand, Georgia voters will choose among four candidates: Republican Donald Trump, Democrat Kamala Harris, Libertarian Chase Oliver, and Green Party nominee Jill Stein. West and De la Cruz’s campaigns argue the disqualification undermines voters’ rights, claiming it’s an attempt by the Democratic Party to block candidates who could take votes from Harris. Appeals are planned, and the situation continues to evolve.
