Former Greensboro Resident Arrested with AK-47 for Plot to Assassinate Trump: Key Details of Ryan Wesley Routh’s History

This news highlights a serious incident involving Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old former Greensboro resident, who was arrested after allegedly attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a West Palm Beach golf course. Routh was reportedly found with an AK-47, a GoPro camera, and other items, concealed in bushes. The Secret Service fired at Routh, though he managed to flee the scene and was apprehended during a traffic stop on I-95.

Routh has a criminal history in North Carolina dating back to 2002, including an incident where he barricaded himself with a gun. He also faced charges for driving without a license, carrying a concealed weapon, and hit-and-run offenses. He was convicted of possessing stolen goods in 2010, and while he received probation for these offenses, his criminal record is extensive.

Routh’s recent social media activity suggests that he believed in COVID-19 conspiracy theories and had a complex political history, voting for Trump in 2016 but later supporting Tulsi Gabbard. He recently moved to Hawaii with his family, but his connection to North Carolina remains relevant due to his criminal record there.
