After a tough loss to the Tennessee Volunteers, the Florida State Seminoles are facing elimination as they take on the Virginia Cavaliers in a crucial College World Series matchup. The Seminoles had a strong showing against the top-ranked Volunteers but faltered in the ninth inning, leading to a heartbreaking defeat.
The bullpen has been a concern for the Seminoles throughout the season, and it proved to be their Achilles’ heel once again in the game against Tennessee. Despite holding a three-run lead heading into the ninth inning, the Seminoles couldn’t close out the game, allowing the Volunteers to score four runs and secure a walk-off victory.
Now, the Seminoles must regroup and focus on their next opponent, the Virginia Cavaliers. Virginia is coming off a super regional win against Kansas State and a tough loss to North Carolina in their first College World Series game. The Cavaliers are led by second baseman Henry Godbout, catcher Jacob Ference, and first baseman Henry Ford, who have been key contributors to their offense.
In their previous meeting this season, the Seminoles defeated the Cavaliers 12-7 in the ACC Tournament. Virginia will start right-hander Jay Woolfolk, who pitched two innings against FSU in their earlier matchup, allowing one run and striking out three.
The game is set to start at 2 p.m. ET from Omaha and will be broadcast on ESPN. Fans can also listen to the game on WFLA 100.7 FM.
Pitching matchup:
- FSU: LHP Carson Dorsey (7-4, 4.67 ERA)
