Florida Man Charged in Georgia for Facebook Marketplace Odometer Fraud

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. – A Florida man with ties to Gwinnett County faces charges in Douglas County after a fraudulent Facebook Marketplace transaction.

Quinn Rosse, 32, appeared in court on Monday for a bond hearing. Authorities accuse him of rolling back the digital odometer on a 2013 Ford Explorer by 100,000 miles before selling it to Ethan Lands, a Carroll County resident.

Lands, from Bowdon, purchased the SUV for $9,500, believing it had 105,000 miles. He needed a reliable, low-mileage vehicle for his growing family, as his first child is on the way. He discovered the true mileage when attempting to register the vehicle.

I was trying to buy a decent, reliable car, Lands said. No telling what else they did.

Douglas County investigator Thomas Puckett stressed the importance of caution when making large purchases online. He recommends obtaining a Carfax report, checking seller details like a driver’s license, and reviewing paperwork for errors.

If it’s too good to be true, it probably is,” Puckett advised.

Lands conducted his own research, uncovering that Rosse had purchased the vehicle just days before selling it.

He bought it Monday, sold it to me on Friday with the miles turned down, and made $5,000 off me, Lands said. I think it’s pretty messed up that I got scammed.

Rosse is facing legal repercussions for the fraudulent sale.
