Feeding South Dakota Hosts Thanksgiving Meal Giveaways in Sioux Falls and Rapid City

Feeding South Dakota is stepping up to provide holiday relief this Saturday morning with Thanksgiving meal giveaways in both Sioux Falls and Rapid City.

The events, starting at 8 a.m. local time, will take place at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls and the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City.

Each site will distribute 1,500 meals, aiming to help families in need celebrate the holiday.

We’re providing traditional Thanksgiving items like turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, apples, and pie—enough to feed a family of four or more, said Lori Dykstra, Feeding South Dakota’s CEO. Families will also receive a gallon of milk.

The need for these giveaways is significant. Megan Kjose, the organization’s Chief Development Officer, highlighted the issue of food insecurity, stating that over 105,000 South Dakotans struggle to access nutritious meals.

Attendees are reminded that meals can only be picked up for their own households. Feeding South Dakota is also collaborating with community partners to ensure no family in need is left behind.
