A man from Fargo, North Dakota, led police on a chase along I-29 early Friday morning, which ended in Richland County.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the 40-year-old man was driving north on I-29 in South Dakota just after midnight when he tried to escape from a sheriff’s deputy in Roberts County, South Dakota. The deputy followed him into North Dakota’s Richland County.
Once in North Dakota, the Highway Patrol joined the chase. A trooper used spike strips to puncture two of the car’s tires, and another trooper used a PIT maneuver a technique to stop fleeing vehicles to force the car off the road and into the highway median, where it came to a stop.
The man was arrested and taken to the Richland County Jail. He faces several charges, including felony fleeing his second offense in three years, driving under the influence of drugs, driving with a suspended license his fourth offense in five years, and reckless endangerment.
A woman who was a passenger in the car was not arrested. She was taken to a home in Fargo.
The man may also face charges in South Dakota for the incident.
