Execution Date Set for Joseph Corcoran: Indiana to Resume Capital Punishment

A date has been set for the execution of Joseph Corcoran, a man from Fort Wayne who killed four people in 1997.

In 1999, Corcoran was convicted of murdering his brother, James, his sister’s fiancé, Robert Scott Turner, and two friends, Timothy Bricker and Douglas Stillwell. The jury recommended the death penalty.

Corcoran lost all his appeals in 2016.

On June 26, 2024, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and Attorney General Todd Rokita announced they plan to resume executions in the state, starting with Corcoran. He would be the first person executed in Indiana since 2009.

Governor Holcomb said the state now has the drug pentobarbital, which can be used for lethal injections. He stated that he is following the law by moving forward with the execution.

According to state law, the superintendent of the Indiana State Prison will carry out Corcoran’s death sentence.

Corcoran’s execution is scheduled for December 18, 2024, before sunrise.
