Ex-Oath Keeper Brian Ulrich Sentenced to Probation for Jan. 6 Capitol Role

Brian Ulrich, a former Oath Keeper from Georgia, was sentenced to three years of probation for his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

After cooperating with prosecutors and pleading guilty to charges of seditious conspiracy and obstruction, he avoided a potential 20-year sentence.

His cooperation provided crucial evidence against other group members, including leader Elmer Stewart Rhodes, who is serving 18 years in prison.

Ulrich admitted to planning to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election, communicating with other Oath Keepers through encrypted apps, and helping transport weapons for the group’s quick reaction force. While he entered the Capitol briefly, he was nonviolent and left soon after.

As part of his sentence, Ulrich must complete 120 hours of community service and pay $2,000 in restitution for the nearly $3 million in damages caused to the Capitol. His attorneys stated that Ulrich deeply regrets his actions, which he described as a series of poor decisions fueled by misinformation.

Other members of extremist groups, including the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, have received significant sentences for seditious conspiracy.

Some, like Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, are serving lengthy prison terms, while others are seeking pardons from former President Donald Trump.
