Essential Supplies Needed for Recovery: How You Can Help Western North Carolina

This report highlights the ongoing recovery efforts in Western North Carolina following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

Despite the severe destruction, including the loss of homes, jobs, and even loved ones, there is an incredible sense of resilience and community spirit. Jason Seidel, a Volunteer and Supply Coordinator, shares that morale remains high, and the support from across the country has been overwhelming.

Donations of essential items have been pouring in, and people are actively participating in the recovery efforts.

Seidel emphasizes that the needs of the community evolve over time, shifting from immediate survival needs to long-term rebuilding efforts, including the restoration of local businesses. He notes that even those who have lost everything are contributing to the recovery, offering their time and resources to help others.

The community’s ability to come together in such a difficult time serves as a powerful example of solidarity.

Currently, the most urgent needs include cleaning supplies like bleach and disinfectants, as well as warm weather essentials such as blankets, coats, and heaters.

Seidel anticipates that the recovery process will continue for at least another year, if not longer.

The ongoing support from both local and national volunteers is helping the region move forward, rebuilding lives and restoring hope after the disaster.
