Donald and Melania Trump are each set to host separate fundraising events on Saturday. Donald Trump will be in North Carolina, raising money for his campaign and the Republican Party ahead of a rally later in the day. Meanwhile, Melania Trump will be at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, raising funds for a conservative LGBT group.
This marks a rare appearance for Melania at a fundraising event, as she has mostly stayed away from her husband’s campaign trail this election cycle. The last time she was seen publicly was at a fundraiser in Palm Beach earlier this month and at a polling location last month.
Melania will headline the fundraiser for Log Cabin Republicans, a prominent organization representing LGBT conservatives. The event will feature co-hosts such as Richard Grenell, a former ambassador and the first openly gay person to hold a Cabinet-level position in the U.S., as well as Bill White and Bryan Eure, longtime allies of Donald Trump.
Tickets for the fundraiser cost $10,000 each, and the event sold out within 36 hours, raising over $1 million. Roughly 70 attendees from various states are expected.
Melania Trump has a history of supporting Log Cabin Republicans, having previously headlined their annual gala and receiving an award for her efforts to promote inclusivity within the Republican Party. Donald Trump himself has also expressed support for the LGBT community.
Meanwhile, in North Carolina, Donald Trump will fundraise with RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law and RNC Co-chair. The event is expected to raise at least $5 million, with ticket prices ranging from $5,000 to $250,000 per couple.
The fundraiser will support Trump’s campaign, his Save America PAC, the RNC, and 40 other state GOP committees. Co-hosts include prominent figures from North Carolina’s Republican Party.
Despite Democratic efforts in North Carolina, Republicans remain confident in their stronghold status in the state, with one co-host of the fundraiser stating that there’s “no chance” Biden will win North Carolina. Expectations for the fundraiser’s success are high, with top donors flying in to attend.
