A 30-year-old man is facing murder charges after being arrested in Georgia for allegedly killing a man and a woman during an attempted purse-snatching in the parking lot of a Boca Raton hotel.
De’Vante Moss, of Boynton Beach, was apprehended by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and now awaits extradition to Palm Beach County.
He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and one count of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.
The tragic incident took place around 5 p.m. Friday at the 365 Ocean Hotel on State Road A1A, across from South Beach Park.
According to Boca Raton police, Moss was seen running with a purse outside one of the hotel rooms, followed by a 32-year-old woman who demanded her belongings back.
As Moss tried to enter his silver Jaguar, two men intervened to help the woman. Moss then drew a firearm, fatally shooting the woman and one of the men. The second man was injured and has been hospitalized.
The victims’ identities have not yet been released, but the male killed was 49 years old. Police were able to track Moss down after his vehicle, which was captured on surveillance video, was entered into a nationwide law enforcement database.
