Derry Medical Center Foundation Awards Scholarships

The Derry Medical Center Charitable Foundation more than doubled the number of scholarships awarded this year to eligible high school seniors pursuing a career in a medically related profession.

Nine students, each graduating in the top 25 percent of his or her class, received $1,000 each. In addition to Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Londonderry High School, Windham High School and Salem High School, Timberlane Regional High School in Atkinson was added to the list of schools from which scholarship recipients were drawn.

This year, two scholarships of $1,000 each were available at each of the four original area high schools, plus one from Timberlane. Applications for the scholarship are available each spring from the guidance offices at each school.

The scholarship winners from Pinkerton are: Ariana Moran, attending Dartmouth College to major in neurobiology and pre-med; and Thomas Rind, attending Tufts University and majoring in chemical engineering.

The winners from Londonderry High School are: Kylee Quitayen, attending the University of California at San Diego and majoring in biochemistry and public health; and William McClelland, attending Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and majoring in pharmacy.

Derry Medical Center has distributed $35,000 since the scholarship’s inception in 2006.

“We are pleased to be able to recognize the academic success of these students,” said Dennis Rork, M.D., a physician partner at Derry Medical Center. “The scholarship also awards their dedication, compassion and willingness to help others in their chosen health profession.”
