Democratic Candidates Rally Support at Teamsters Union Hall in Springfield

Around 150 attendees gathered at the Teamsters union hall in northeast Springfield on Monday night to rally behind Democratic candidates vying for various offices.

Missi Hesketh, the mayor of Forsyth—a small town near Branson—is running for U.S. House Representative for Missouri’s 7th District. She aims to unseat incumbent Republican Eric Burlison, despite poll forecasters giving her little chance. However, Hesketh remains optimistic.

“I am feeling wonderful, she told Ozarks Public Radio before addressing the crowd. “It has been an incredible experience going out and meeting so many wonderful and hard-working people in southwest Missouri.

I have been absolutely affirmed in my belief that we are not receiving the representation that we need in southwest Missouri. Knowing that I am giving them an option on the ballot is a success for me.”

During her speech, Hesketh expressed her belief that this will be a politically significant year for women. In contrast, recent polling averages indicate that Donald Trump is leading Kamala Harris by roughly 13 points in Missouri, although both candidates are neck-and-neck in national and swing-state polls.

Crystal Quade, the Democratic nominee for governor and a lawmaker from downtown Springfield, currently trails Republican opponent Mike Kehoe by about 10 points in recent polls. When asked about her candidacy in what many consider a red state, Quade responded, Folks like to call Missouri a red state, but I like to say we’re actually a nonvoting state.

When you look at the numbers of registered voters who don’t turn out, we’re definitely a lot more balanced than folks think. Moreover, when we look at ballot initiatives and the issues Missourians are voting for, these are topics we’ve been advocating for a long time.

I’m really excited about the opportunity this year—not only because we have great initiatives like Amendment 3 and Proposition A on the ballot that are really going to turn out voters, but we also know that folks are really tired of the status quo.
