Delaware State Police DUI Checkpoint Leads to 11 Arrests in Milford

The DUI checkpoint held in Milford last weekend by Delaware State Police was deemed a success, leading to a total of 11 arrests and one seat belt violation. The checkpoint, which took place from 10 p.m. on Friday, September 6, to 2 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, resulted in four DUI arrests. Other arrests included a wanted individual, a person charged with drug offenses, and five traffic-related arrests.

This marked Delaware’s first DUI checkpoint since 2019. In Delaware, drivers aged 21 and over with a blood alcohol content BAC of 0.08 or higher can be convicted of driving under the influence DUI. Penalties for first-time offenders include fines ranging from $500 to $1,500, up to a year in prison, and a potential license suspension for one to two years.

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety reported that in 2023, there were 31 traffic-related deaths attributed to drugs or alcohol.
