Delaware Closes Sections of North Indian River Inlet Beach for Safety

Indian River Inlet, DE – The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control DNREC has closed sections of North Indian River Inlet Beach due to safety concerns.

DNREC reported that debris and exposed parts of the bridge have made the area dangerous. Heavy equipment will be used in the area over the next few months, making it necessary to keep the sections closed.

We ask everyone to stay away from these areas for now, DNREC said in a social media post on Wednesday, September 4th. Your safety is our top concern, and we appreciate your understanding.

The closure follows several dune breaches along Route 1 over the summer, prompting Delaware lawmakers to seek long-term solutions for protecting the shoreline and preventing erosion.
