Cold Weather Advisory in Door County: Visitors Brave Frigid Temperatures Despite Harsh Conditions

A cold weather advisory is currently in effect across Door County and northeast Wisconsin, lasting until Tuesday afternoon. Despite the frigid temperatures, some visitors still ventured outdoors to enjoy the sunshine.

Rachel Shoe, another visitor in Door County, expressed discomfort with the cold: “I don’t like being cold like this, she said, noting the drastic temperature drop.

Last time we looked at the temperature, it was 29 degrees, and then getting up this morning, it was negative four degrees. You could really feel a difference.

In Sturgeon Bay, temperatures were near zero degrees on Sunday, and with wind chills reaching negative 15 to 25 degrees, the cold was harsh, particularly for those not accustomed to it. “When we walked from [her boyfriend’s] place down the hallway to go out to the parking lot, the whole building started getting colder, Shoe explained.

However, Gabe and Lydia Park, who visited from Madison, embraced the cold, taking advantage of a weekend getaway while their baby stayed with grandparents. “This weekend we have a babysitter.

We’ve got a 10-month-old at home, so we came up here to drop her off with the grandparents and we’re out and about ’cause why not?” Gabe said.

The Parks, originally from Wisconsin, understand the harshness of winter and see it as part of the season. It’s wintertime, you gotta embrace it, Lydia added.

With wind chills between negative 10 to 20 degrees, frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes. Experts recommend dressing in layers and checking the weather before venturing outside.

Despite the cold, some residents and visitors are making the most of the winter weather in Door County.
