A 52-year-old Ohio man, Carlos Sept of Dayton, was arrested in northwest Indiana on Friday after attempting to flee from police following a crash on Interstate 65 near Rensselaer.
Initially, Sept lied about his identity during the crash investigation, leading police to discover he was wanted in Ohio for a probation violation.
As the trooper attempted to arrest him, Sept fled across I-65, creating a dangerous situation in snowy conditions. He then ran into a field before attempting to escape by driving his car off the tow truck that had been called to the scene. After a brief standoff, Sept surrendered and was taken into custody.
The officer’s K9 later discovered Sept was in possession of marijuana and suspected heroin.
He now faces felony charges of intimidation and possession of a controlled substance, along with misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement, providing false identification, and marijuana possession.
Although the probation violation in Ohio was non-extraditable, the man was still charged for his actions in Indiana.
