California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara recently spoke about his plans to address the state’s ongoing insurance crisis, particularly focusing on homeowner’s insurance.
He acknowledged the severity of the issue but expressed optimism, saying, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Despite the prolonged challenges, Lara emphasized that his department is now in a position to implement meaningful reforms.
Lara also dismissed the need for a special legislative session, explaining that he has the statutory authority to enact the necessary changes without further legislative action.
However, he did express interest in working with the California Legislature in 2025 to create programs aimed at helping consumers afford property mitigation measures.
He emphasized the importance of not letting the crisis pass without instituting real reforms, particularly those that could save lives and protect homes.
