Last week, opponents from Amherst and Northwood found out just how warm the Pinkerton Academy boys’ volleyball squad had become during its recent winning streak.
Coach Colin Walker’s Astros snagged their fourth and fifth consecutive victories during school vacation last week, and in doing so bounced their 2014 season record up to 6-1.
The Astro guys put forth a strong performance in a 3-1 drubbing of the host Souhegan High Sabers in Amherst on Wednesday, April 30. And in doing so they claimed their fourth consecutive win and made their season record a strong 5-1.
Pinkerton drove its way to a 25-14 win in the first set, but the winless hosts (0-4) came roaring back to bag a 25-18 win in set two and make it a 1-1 match.
However, the academy side snared set wins of 25-8 and 25-17 in games three and four to win going away.
Kyle Heidler notched a superb 32 assists to go along with four kills, Cooper Williams snagged 14 kills, eighth service points, and three aces, Cobi Moore was good for 11 service points and one ace, and Chris Komisarek collected 12 kills.
And last Friday, May 2, in Derry, the Coe-Brown Northwood contingent proved to be no match for a Pinkerton contingent that has built up plenty of confidence in itself during its five-game winning skein.
Consecutive match win number five came in the 3-0 shutout besting of Coe-Brown, with Walker’s warriors collecting lopsided set wins of 25-9, 25-2, and 25-6.
Komisarek finished with significant numbers, including 17 service points (with two aces) to go along with three kills. Moore notched 15 service points, Cooper Williams was good for eight kills, and Jacob Newman tallied six kills and two blocks.
The Astros then performed the same sort of handiwork against the rival Londonderry High Lancers in Derry this past Monday, pushing their winning streak along by blanking the Lancers by a 3-0 tally to move to 7-1 on the season.
By winning the three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-15, the academy bunch blanked Londonderry for the second time this spring.
Heidler was good for 24 assists for the victors; Moore tallied 12 digs, seven service points with three aces, and three assists; Williams bagged nine kills and six service points; Chris Komesarik scored seven kills; Andrew Lechner was good for seven kills and five blocks; and Newman snared five blocks in yet another PA win.
The volleyball win gave the academy its first victory in spring Beeman Trophy play with LHS as well.
