Sophomore forward Nicole Alves scored all of the goals and the Pinkerton Academy girls’ soccer squad’s defense gave up very little as the Lady Astros bounced their 2015 record up to a perfect 4-0 with two wins last week.
Coach Steve Gundrum’s group defeated Timberlane of Plaistow by a 2-0 tally in Derry Wednesday, Sept. 9, and two days later on the same field the locals claimed a 1-0 decision against the tough Bedford High Lady Bulldogs.
In the Wednesday win against the now 2-2 Timberlane troup, Pinkerton received first and second half tallies from Alves, with Brianna Romano and Courtney Velho registering assists and PA standout goalie Sammy Mitchell contributing three saves in her team’s second straight shutout.
Headed into consecutive shutout number three which came two days later, the Atros faced the tough 3-1 Bulldogs.
Alves’ got her third goal of the week just before halftime, That late in the half score stood up for a 1-0 Pinkerton win.
Kyra Goucher had the assist on that important tally, and net-minder Mitchell contributed six stops.
The team was scheduled to play away at the 3-1 Alvirne High Broncos in Hudson on Tuesday, Sept. 15 after Nutfield News press time. Then on Friday the locals will face the unbeaten Manchester Central High Little Green on their home turf in Derry.
