YORK COUNTY, Va. — A man from Yorktown, Thomas Edward Barnes, was arrested for breaking into a home and assaulting a woman.
Early on Tuesday, July 2, around 2:30 a.m., deputies were called to the 6300 Block of George Washington Memorial Highway. A woman reported that a male acquaintance had forced his way into her home and assaulted her.
Deputies arrived within minutes and started searching for the suspect, who had fled into the woods.
Around 3:30 a.m., two deputies and a K9 named Nitro found Barnes, 65, hiding near the Grafton Woods subdivision.
Barnes was arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, and misdemeanor assault and battery. He is currently in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
