11-Year-Old Charged in Florida for Over 20 Swatting Calls Targeting Schools

An 11-year-old from Virginia has been charged in Florida for making over 20 swatting calls, mainly targeting schools, according to local police. It’s unclear why he chose Florida or if he has any connection to the state.

The swatting calls began on May 14, starting with Buddy Taylor Middle School in Palm Coast. Over the next week, he called various Florida schools, including First Baptist Christian Academy, Flagler Palm Coast High School, Old Kings Elementary School, and Suncoast Community School.

Swatting involves making false emergency calls to provoke a large police response. In this case, the boy made threats about bombs, mass shootings, and shootings at schools.

Authorities were able to trace the calls back to the boy through voice analysis. He admitted to the swatting and also to making a threat to Maryland’s State House.

The child has been arrested in Virginia on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including false bomb reports and disrupting school functions. He is currently in a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, and efforts are underway to transfer him to Florida.

Sheriff Rick Staly emphasized the seriousness of the situation and praised the detectives for their efforts in resolving the case. The boy’s name has been released but is not shared here. Despite the gravity of his actions, there is hope that he can learn from this and avoid long-term consequences.
