Police continue to ask for the public’s help in locating a 63-year-old man who walked away from Parkland Medical Center prior to treatment on Dec. 13.
John Walsh, a resident of Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, was last seen on foot walking southbound on Birch Street in Derry, towards Windham, police said.
“Mr. Walsh has yet to be found,” Derry police Capt. Vern Thomas said in a press release Monday, adding “We have received reports of “sightings” in various locations but none of these have been confirmed.”
Derry Police conducted an extensive search in the area of Parkland Medical Center and the surrounding Birch St. businesses and wooded area but didn’t locate Walsh after he walked away from the hospital. Police learned from Walsh’s family that he has gone on long walks in the past and ended up in various parts of the state. On at least one occasion it was reported that Walsh hitchhiked to Brattleboro, Vt. It is possible that Walsh may have sought a ride from someone in the area of Birch Street and Rockingham Road in Derry, according to police.
Walsh was last seen wearing a brown leather jacket, gray tee shirt, and blue jeans. Walsh’s family is concerned for his safety and has requested the assistance of the public in locating him. Walsh is approximately 6 feet tall and weighs approx. 139 pounds.
The Derry Police Department is actively searching for Walsh.
“His information has been posted on Social Media sites that hopefully will reach further,” Thomas said in a statement. “We ask that anyone with possible sightings or any information be directed to the Derry Police Department at 603-432-6111. It is important that information is provided to us directly rather than added to Social Media. We need to follow it up immediately and have the ability to converse with reporting persons for additional specifics to determine the veracity of the sighting. We are hopeful that with the public’s help that we locate Mr. Walsh and return him to a safe environment.”
