The state Attorney General’s office is investigating the shooting death of a Lowell, Mass., teenager Wednesday night, July 20 on North Shore Road.
The Attorney General’s office said Friday that the person who shot 17-year-old Cole Kinney claims to have been acting in self-defense.
Kinney, 17, was shot after an altercation involving a number of people, according to Geoffrey Ward of the state Attorney General’s office. A 9-1-1 call came in at 11:19 p.m.
The shooter is alleged to have disappeared on Island Pond Road, and a car with Massachusetts plates was taken from the scene the next day.
An autopsy by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Andrew determined that Kinney died from a single gunshot wound to the chest and that the manner of death was homicide.
Ward said in a statement that no arrests have been made and that the shooter’s name will not be revealed while the investigation is ongoing.
