First-year varsity coach Katie Van Nostrand saw her Pinkerton Academy field hockey contingent close out its 2016 regular season last week with a win and a defeat. But the former PA field hockey star had her contingent win five of its last six regular season matches to step into tournament play with a 9-5 overall record and quite a few reasons to feel confident about itself.
The Lady Astros had a four-game winning streak end with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Concord High Crimson Tide in Derry on Tuesday, Oct. 11. That loss made the Pinkerton bunch 8-5 overall with one match left in the regular season.
The Concord side scored the first goal of the match with 10:37 to go in the first half, but Pinkerton bagged the equalizer as time expired in the period when Carly Young was set up by Emma Bennett on a penalty corner.
However, the Crimson Tide claimed the winning goal less than six minutes into the second half on a penalty corner of its own.
The Astros received three saves from goalie Khayliyah Ellis, and that was the same number of stops made by the Concord net-minder in a winning effort. Continue reading
